Audi has now unveiled the latest generation of the Audi A6 Avant, which was originally intended to be named the A7. The decision to retain the A6 name means that the model now shares its designation with the electric A6 e-tron, creating a clear link between combustion engines and electrification in Audi’s lineup.
This new station wagon will compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the BMW 5 Series, and the upcoming updated Volvo S90—three models it has historically rivaled in the premium segment. Later, the A6 will also be available as a sedan, and enthusiasts can look forward to a more extreme RS6 with a V8 engine!
Refined design and improved aerodynamics
The new A6 Avant boasts a refined and modern design, with Audi focusing heavily on improving aerodynamics. Measuring 4.96 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, and 1.46 meters in height, the car has become more spacious while maintaining its sporty appearance.

The luggage compartment holds 503 liters, (just one liter more than its electric counterpart) but if you opt for the diesel hybrid version, the capacity is reduced to 466 liters, which is significantly smaller than what competitors offer.

The wheelbase has been extended by 83 mm to 2.84 meters, enhancing both driving dynamics and interior space. A standout feature is the car’s low drag coefficient of 0.25, the best ever achieved for an Audi Avant with a combustion engine.

The cabin is designed with a strong emphasis on digitalization and high-quality materials. The infotainment system consists of a 12.3-inch digital cockpit, a central touchscreen, and an additional passenger display for a user-friendly experience.

Similar to what has been seen in the E-Class, buyers can opt for up to three touchscreen displays. Audi also offers seven different digital lighting signatures, which can be customized to the driver’s preferences. The materials used in the cabin include soft leather surfaces, genuine aluminum, and wood inlays, while rear-seat space has been improved thanks to the extended wheelbase.
The last diesel Audi
The Audi A6 Avant will only be available with a 2.0-liter engine, either in a petrol or diesel version, both equipped with Audi’s latest mild-hybrid technology (MHEV plus). Moreover, it seems likely that the A6 will be Audi’s last model to feature a diesel engine. Both engines produce 204 horsepower, but a 3.0-liter V6 turbo petrol engine is also expected. Just not for the European market. Diesel will be the only option available with Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system.
