The German answer to the Maserati Grecale Folgore will arrive in 2024, and it will be the all new Porsche Macan.
Unlike the acclaimed Italian SUV, which is also available with the V6 Nettuno engine, the Macan will be exclusively electric.
A totally new Porsche Macan
There aren’t many details yet, especially regarding the design, but being Porsche’s best-selling model, it will be a key car in their electrification process. Additionally, it will be among the first vehicles built on the new PPE platform developed in collaboration with Audi, the same platform that equips the highly anticipated Audi Q6 e-tron.
The Porsche Macan will undergo a significant transformation. As mentioned, there will be no more gasoline-powered Macan. The second generation of this compact German super-SUV will be fully electric, as evident from its development on the PPE platform (Premium Platform Electric), designed exclusively for battery-powered vehicles.
At present, this platform is the most technologically advanced within the Volkswagen Group, and it provides a sporty interpretation for the Macan. It features an 800-volt electrical system, promising rapid charging times with DC power up to 270 kW. The car will use lithium-ion batteries with NCM (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese) cells, offering a capacity of 100 kWh. Although there are no official autonomy figures, all three versions are expected to be over 500 km on the WLTP cycle.
The total power, in the maximum configuration, reaches an impressive 612 horsepower.
The chassis has also been completely redesigned. The Porsche Macan will feature steel spring suspension with active shock absorbers and adaptive pneumatic suspensions with extensive adjustability, including a height increase of up to 40 mm for off-road enjoyment. The vehicle is expected to be equipped with a rear-wheel steering system, allowing the rear wheels to turn up to 5°.
Internally, the car is expected to have a new dashboard accommodating up to 4 displays, including a 12.6″ curved display and an augmented reality head-up display, along with two 10.9″ touchscreens—one in the center and one in front of the front passenger. The novelty is that the operating system is finally based on Android Automotive, highly customized by Porsche but natively compatible with the entire Google suite.
