Although this is just a so-called facelift of the BMW 1-Series, which was introduced in 2020, much has actually changed. BMW has given the model a new design and a smaller grille at the front, in contrast to other models that have received larger grilles.
The top model is still the M135 (and a forthcoming M2 Coupé version), but BMW has chosen to remove the “i” from the name. Now the models are no longer called M135i, but simply M135. The same applies to the 120i, which is now called 120. This is because the “i” is reserved for their electric models.
Farewell to the Diesel Engine in Denmark
The engine lineup has also changed significantly in the Danish market. The 1-Series is no longer available with diesel engines like the 118d and 120d, both of which had 2-liter diesel engines. Instead, it is now available with two petrol engines: the M135 and the 120. The 120 model has a 1.5-liter turbo engine with three cylinders, now producing 170 hp. For those seeking more power, the M135 xDrive is the top model with 300 hp from a 2.0-liter turbo, achieving 0-100 km/h in under 5 seconds.
According to BMW, the new grille design should provide better air intake. Gear options still include their 8-speed automatic transmission, but BMW has now removed the manual transmission, which was hardly available on the Danish market anyway.

A Cabin Like a Larger 3-Series
A quick hop into the cabin feels like sitting in the larger 3-Series. The driver-oriented dashboard, which includes the BMW Curved Display and a new gear selector on the center console, gives the cabin a modern touch. The fully digital display consists of a 10.25-inch information screen and a 10.7-inch control screen, with the option for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A newly designed sports steering wheel is standard. As an option, one can order an M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles and steering wheel heating, BMW Head-Up Display, and their Live Cockpit Professional, among many other features.
So, Audi, Mercedes, or BMW?
The new BMW 1-Series is one of the last BMW models still running on fossil fuels. It is designed to compete with other popular luxury compact cars, such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class. With its updated design, advanced technology, and refined driving dynamics, the BMW 1-Series aims to attract car enthusiasts looking for both style and performance.
