Don’t worry, the new BMW M5 remains as fierce as ever. Despite BMW’s shift towards electric power, there’s no indication that this new model is any less powerful than its predecessor. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Here comes the new BMW M5!

At the core of the BMW M5 lies the same engine found in the larger BMW XM – a 4.4-liter V8 paired with an electric motor generating 196 hp, culminating in a staggering total of 727 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

This marks a 16% increase in power compared to the previous M5. However, this boost in performance comes with a significant weight gain, bringing the new model to an impressive 2,445 kg, a 24% increase. On electric power alone, the new BMW M5 can cover up to 40 km on a single charge.

With a 40-year legacy, the seventh generation of the BMW M5 is ready to grace the roads with an electrified powertrain for the first time. The fusion of a V8 petrol engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an electric motor delivers a combined output of 727 horsepower.

This powerhouse, coupled with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, propels the car from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

Advanced Hybrid Drivetrain: Enhancing Handling and Performance

The M Hybrid powertrain integrates a 4.4-liter V8 petrol engine and an electric motor, finely tuned for the new M5. The petrol engine alone produces 585 hp/430 kW and 750 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds 197 hp/145 kW and 280 Nm of torque.

Together, they deliver a total output of 727 hp/535 kW and 1,000 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h, extendable to 305 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package. In pure electric mode, the M5 can reach speeds up to 140 km/h.

Power from the hybrid powertrain is channeled through the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which can be adjusted to rear-wheel drive for a more traditional driving feel. The active M differential on the rear axle is optimized for the M Hybrid powertrain. The high-voltage battery, positioned in the car’s floor, has an energy capacity of 18.6 kWh, offering an electric range of up to 68 kilometers. AC charging is supported up to 7.4 kW.

Global Premiere and Production Launch

The world premiere of the new BMW M5 will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England in July 2024, with production starting the same month at the BMW Group Plant in Dingolfing, Germany.
