Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has just unveiled the new Ford Transit based Volkswagen Transporter. This upgraded model features significant improvements in technical specifications and functionality.
Offering more space, greater payload, increased towing capacity, higher efficiency, and enhanced precision, the new Transporter marks a new era. The design remains true to tradition but is adapted to modern requirements.
Now with an electric drivetrain also
The new Transporter is available as a panel van and double cab, both with the option of a high roof and extended wheelbase.
The Caravelle is designed for commercial passenger transport with three trim levels: entry-level, Life, and Style. The PanAmericana version, known for its robust off-road look, is available as both a van and minibus.
The range of drivetrains has been expanded with the latest TDI turbo diesel engines and a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain (eHybrid) with 232 hp. For the first time, the Transporter is available with a fully electric drivetrain in three versions: 136 hp, 218 hp, and the fastest Transporter to date with 286 hp, all with an 83 kWh battery.
A version with a 64 kWh battery and a lower power model for urban driving will be launched later. The TDI and eHybrid models feature front-wheel drive, while the electric models have rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel-drive version planned. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard for but an optional for the lowest power version. The TDI comes with either 110 hp, 150 hp or 170 hp.
Interior and Functionality
The new Transporter features a keyless start button and an interior dominated by a 12” digital instrument cluster and a 13” Infotainment screen.
The multifunction steering wheel has intuitive buttons, and the gear selector has been moved to the steering wheel to create more space. Large cup holders and storage compartments make organizing the workday easier. The increased length, width, and wheelbase result in greater load capacity.
Payload and Towing Capacity
With a height of under 2 meters, the new Transporter fits into standard parking garages and has a turning radius of just 11.8 meters. It can carry a maximum payload of up to 1.33 tons and tow trailers of up to 2.8 tons, depending on the variant.
The new Transporter will be officially unveiled on September 15 at the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover and is expected to be available in Denmark at the beginning of 2025.
