Dongfeng Box is an electric B-segment vehicle aims to balance affordability, technology, and practicality, positioning itself as a strong alternative to European electric compact cars.
Showcased at the Turin Auto Show together with other Dongfeng cars like the Voyah Courage, the Dongfeng Box has already started its sales journey in Switzerland, where it’s drawing attention.
Dongfeng Box: design and dimensions
The Dongfeng Box, known as the Nammi 01 in China, stands out with a sober, globally appealing design aimed at attracting a wide range of consumers.
Thanks to Dongfeng’s S3 architecture, the Box boasts a surprisingly spacious interior, especially for a car that measures 4.03 meters in length. With a wheelbase of 2.66 meters, it significantly outclasses many other electric B-segment cars, offering superior comfort. Its compact dimensions—1.57 meters in height and 1.81 meters in width—make it ideal for city driving, without sacrificing interior space.
The Swiss version of the Dongfeng Box comes with a 95-horsepower electric motor and a 43.8 kWh LFP battery, providing a driving range of 310 km according to the WLTP cycle. There is also a version with a 32.5 kWh battery offering 230 km of range. However, a downside compared to other models is the lack of DC fast charging, as the Box only supports 6.6 kW AC charging.
Competitive pricing
One of the strongest selling points of the Dongfeng Box is its competitive price. In China, prices start at just €9,000 (70,000 DKK ca), while the Swiss version with a 43.8 kWh battery is offered at approximately €23,000 (171,600 DKK ca).
This positions the Dongfeng Box among the most affordable alternatives in the electric compact car segment, making it a serious contender against models like the Citroen e-C3 and the upcoming Fiat Grande Panda. Price is a crucial factor for Chinese brands, particularly in segments where affordability is a key driver of consumer choice.
Technology and Comfort
Despite its budget-friendly positioning, the Dongfeng Box does not skimp on technology. The minimalist interior features a large 12.8-inch touchscreen for infotainment and connectivity.
The car is also equipped with Level 2 ADAS for advanced driving assistance. The driver’s seat includes heating, ventilation, and memory functions, while the Lay Flat rear seats add versatility, making the Dongfeng Box a practical choice without compromising on comfort or modern tech.
