MG Denmark invited the Danish press, and so NordiskBil, to their headquarters in Fredericia to present their last news. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and introduced to the four new models. First, we got a brief insight into the new generation of MG ZS, followed by the compact MG3 Hybrid+ (you can find our first test here), the spacious MG EHS PHEV, and finally, the spectacular electric sports car, MG Cyberster.
MG ZS Hybrid+
The second generation of MG ZS represents a significant change compared to the previous model. ZS will no longer be sold as an electric car in Denmark and Europe in general, but as a hybrid. The new model, MG ZS Hybrid Plus, is set to compete with cars like the Toyota Yaris Cross Hybrid and Renault Captur E-Tech.
The engine in the upcoming ZS is a four-cylinder 1.5-liter gasoline engine combined with a 1.83 kWh battery. The gasoline engine delivers 102 hp and 128 Nm, while the electric motor provides 136 hp and 250 Nm. Overall, the ZS has a system output of 194 hp. Additionally, it boasts 443 liters of trunk space, which can be expanded to 1457 liters with the rear seats folded down.
The price for the new ZS starts at a very competitive 249,999 kr. and goes up to 289,999 kr. for the top version.
MG EHS PHEV
The next model in line is the new generation of EHS PHEV. The design of the new EHS looks sharp compared to the previous model. The price starts from 299,999 kr. for the base version and 334,999 kr. for the top model Luxury. EHS still features a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine.
The battery has grown to 21.4 kWh from the previous 16 kWh, significantly improving the electric range up to 100 km on pure electricity, according to MG. The EHS PHEV has an output of 142 hp and 240 Nm from the gasoline engine, while the electric motor provides 184 hp.
An interesting feature of the EHS is that it primarily runs on electricity; the gasoline engine activates only when you press the pedal all the way down or when there is no more charge left in the battery. The EHS is equipped with a two-speed automatic transmission and can tow up to 2500 kg. A short test drive in the EHS revealed that it is incredibly comfortable and drives like an electric vehicle, providing a pleasant driving experience.
MG 3 Hybrid+
The next model from MG is the compact MG3, which is an exciting addition to the mini-segment. It has been many years since MG had a small car on the program in Denmark—one must go back to the early 2000s with the MG ZR. The MG 3 is a direct competitor to the Toyota Yaris Hybrid if you choose the hybrid version; a gasoline-only MG 3 will also be introduced later.
It is equipped with the same engine as the ZS Hybrid Plus—a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 102 hp and 128 Nm, which can also produce 136 hp on electricity and 250 Nm. The total output is therefore 194 hp, making the MG 3 Hybrid+ a strong competitor in its class. Prices start from 214,999 kr. and go up to 249,999 kr. for the top model Luxury.
The MG 3 with only a gasoline engine is expected to hit the market at a starting price of 179,999 kr. During a brief test drive in the MG 3 Hybrid+, we were once again impressed by how much hybrid technology you get for the money in this class. It drives quickly and comfortably, and it features a three-speed automatic transmission, providing a smooth driving experience without the typical drawbacks of CVT gearboxes seen in other hybrids.
The only criticism we encountered was that the steering wheel felt somewhat plasticky to hold, but we still expect the MG3 to become a popular car in the Danish market.
MG Cyberster
The last car we had the opportunity to experience was the highly anticipated electric sports car, the MG Cyberster. In Denmark, it comes in two versions: MG Cyberster Trophy and MG Cyberster GT.
The Trophy version is equipped with rear-wheel drive and a single electric motor that produces 340 hp and 475 Nm, with an estimated range of 443 km. The GT version, on the other hand, has an estimated range of 507 km and a dual motor that boosts the output to 510 hp and 725 Nm. Both versions share a 77 kWh battery.
During a brief test drive in the Cyberster GT, despite the rain, we had the chance to test it both with and without the roof. The driving position is really good, even though you are sitting on top of the battery, and you get the experience you expect from a two-seater sports car.
The Cyberster GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, making it one of the fastest cars on the roads. An interesting aspect of the Cyberster is its cabin, where the “three-part” screens can be difficult to keep track of, especially as the steering wheel can obstruct some visibility. But overall, the Cyberster is comfortable to drive and very quiet, with a noise level of 60 dB at 60 km/h and 65 dB at 120 km/h.
A remarkable detail is the two scissor doors that open at an angle of between 30 and 60 degrees. The price starts from 499,999 kr. for the Trophy version, and with an additional 50,000 kr., you can get the impressive GT for 549,999 kr.
All the new MG models can be ordered today, and the EHS and Cyberster will be available at dealerships starting in November. A 7-year/150,000 km warranty is also offered. Test drives at dealerships are possible right now. We look forward to MG’s journey in the coming year, where the electric MG 4 will receive a facelift, and new models like the MG 5, MARVEL R, and MG ZS will be introduced.
