September was already a record, but October 2024 did even better. Last month marked an unprecedented shift towards electric vehicles, with an astonishing 61.3% of new car registrations being electric. This means that over 6/10 new cars sold in Denmark last month were EVs, setting a new record and further solidifying the nation’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
Skoda Enyaq beats Tesla
October’s surge in EV adoption was accompanied by a shake-up in Denmark’s list of top-selling car models. The Skoda Enyaq emerged as the clear favorite, securing the top spot with 1,039 units sold. But the “cousin” Ford Explorer continues its Danish success already showed in September, making an impressive debut and claiming the second position with 604 units sold. And maybe Ford can even increase its popularity in the Country with the new Capri, basically the coupé version of the Explorer.
Interestingly, the Tesla Model Y, a long-time favorite in Denmark, slipped to fourth place, showing a possible shift in consumer preferences. But we have to consider that Tesla showcased the new 7-seater Model Y at Paris Motor Show and eCar Expo 2024, and also the restyling is expected at the beginning of 2025.
In a sign of the times, only one fossil-fuel-powered vehicle managed to break into October’s top ten: the Nissan Qashqai, which rounded out the list in the tenth spot – and no more Volkswagen Polo.

Denmark’s green future
October’s record-breaking EV sales highlight Denmark’s ambitious path toward a greener future. This unprecedented growth in EV adoption not only points to Danish consumers’ rising enthusiasm for sustainable options but also underscores Denmark’s potential to serve as a model for EV adoption worldwide.
With policy stability and ongoing support, Denmark is well-positioned to become a frontrunner in the global shift toward electric mobility. The next challenge? Reaching — and potentially surpassing — the symbolic threshold where more than half of the country’s annual car sales are fully electric, a goal that seems increasingly within reach as Denmark accelerates into an electrified future.
