Hyundai has lifted the veil on their first fully electric three-row SUV, the Ioniq 9, which positions itself as the flagship model in the brand’s EV lineup. Built on Hyundai’s advanced E-GMP platform, which also underpins successful models like the Kia EV9, the Ioniq 9 can be seen as an electric counterpart to the Santa Fe.
3 Powerful powertrains
The Ioniq 9 will be offered with three powertrain options, all powered by a large 110.3 kWh battery.
- Long Range RWD: Features a single rear motor producing 214 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This version can achieve up to 620 km on a single charge (WLTP) when equipped with 19-inch wheels.
- Long Range AWD: Adds a front motor, delivering a combined 288 hp and 605 Nm of torque.
- Performance AWD: Boasts dual motors producing a total of 429 hp and 700 Nm, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.
Regardless of the variant, all models support fast charging, with the battery going from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes using a 350 kW DC charger. Additionally, the vehicle includes a “Vehicle-to-Load” feature, enabling it to power external devices.
An elegant design
The Ioniq 9’s design draws heavy inspiration from the SEVEN Concept, showcasing Hyundai’s signature Parametric Pixel headlights. The SUV achieves a sleek aerodynamic profile, with a drag coefficient of just 0.259 Cd when equipped with digital side mirrors.
One innovative design element is the removal of the traditional antenna, replaced by a system where the windshield handles GPS and satellite radio, the dashboard manages connected services, and the rear window is used for FM/AM radio. Customers can choose from wheel sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches and a palette of 16 exterior colors.
With a 313 cm wheelbase, the Ioniq 9 offers a spacious cabin designed for comfort. The interior is crafted from sustainable materials, including recycled PET fabric, wool fabric, and leather processed using eco-friendly methods. The SUV is available in six- or seven-seat configurations, with the second-row seats featuring a swivel function similar to the Kia EV9.
The driver’s area is dominated by a single curved display, integrating a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch infotainment screen. Standard equipment includes an 8-speaker audio system, while a 14-speaker premium system from Bose is available as an upgrade.
Several 100-watt USB-C ports are strategically placed throughout the cabin and draw power directly from the main battery instead of the conventional 12-volt system.

Hyundai has equipped the Ioniq 9 with its latest safety technologies as standard. These include:

Additionally, the vehicle features 10 airbags to ensure maximum protection for all passengers.
Coming to Denmark and beyond
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is expected to launch in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, with availability in Europe and other regions following later in the year. Market-specific specifications and pricing will be announced closer to the launch date.
