Polestar unveiled the winner of its 2024 Design Contest, held in partnership with the iconic Hot Wheels. This year’s competition challenged participants to create designs inspired by the signature 1:64 scale of Hot Wheels cars, while incorporating Polestar’s distinctive design language: the name is Polestar TRX.
With its exaggerated proportions and sleek surfaces, the Polestar TRX boldly reinterprets Polestar’s typically understated design philosophy. Excitingly, it will become the first Polestar model to be included in the Hot Wheels die-cast car series, available to consumers in summer 2025.
When Hot Wheels meets Polestar
The collaboration between Hot Wheels and Polestar pushed creative boundaries, encouraging designers to merge the playful essence of Hot Wheels with Polestar’s signature minimalism.
This year’s contest not only provided a platform for innovation but also strengthened the connection between the two brands. The competition fostered creativity and innovation, culminating in standout concepts that exemplify the bold spirit of both Polestar and Hot Wheels.
The second prize went to Italy’s Powei Chen for his vibrant Cyber Shaker, a design blending past and present with a striking cyberpunk aesthetic. Germany’s Roman Moors earned an honorable mention for his Polestar Track Toy concept, a Le Mans-inspired design that wowed the jury.
This year’s contest attracted over 1,200 entries from around the world, making it one of the largest editions to date. The jury, including representatives from Polestar and Mattel, evaluated submissions for their ability to balance the playful energy of Hot Wheels with Polestar’s minimalist aesthetic.
The Polestar design contest
Polestar’s annual design contest, now in its fourth edition, continues to be a springboard for budding and professional designers alike. Through its close connection with the Polestar Design Community, participants receive guidance and mentorship throughout the competition. Finalists work directly with Polestar’s design team to refine their concepts, ensuring high-quality submissions.
Many participants from previous contests have gone on to work within Polestar’s design team or the broader automotive design industry. This year’s collaboration with Hot Wheels offered an unparalleled opportunity to explore new creative horizons, resulting in some of the boldest concepts in the contest’s history.
