After closing 2024 with the launch of the Sealion 7, BYD kicks off the new year at the Brussels Motor Show, unveiling its latest compact SUV: BYD Atto 2.
Already available in China f, the Atto 2 aims to carve a niche in the competitive European B-SUV segment, made stronger with the launch of Lynk & Co 02, Ford Puma Gen-E and the new Kia EV3.
Urban, spacious design
Measuring 4.31 meters in length, the Atto 2 offers a surprisingly spacious interior for its class. With a wheelbase of 2.62 meters and a width of 1.83 meters, the SUV strikes a balance between compact dimensions and interior comfort.
Inside, the cabin design centers around two key elements: a 12.8-inch infotainment display and a digital instrument cluster, both housed in a clean and well-organized layout. Externally, the Atto 2 continues the theme of balanced aesthetics, combining a modern design with functional elements.
Renturn to Blade Batteries
Powered by a 42.4 kWh LFP battery using BYD’s cell-to-battery technology, the Atto 2 weighs in at 1,590 kg. This setup provides a WLTP-rated range of 312 km, extending to an impressive 463 km under urban driving conditions.
While not setting benchmarks for long-distance travel, the battery is well-suited for city commutes. Charging options include 11 kW for AC and a maximum of 65 kW for DC fast charging. not the best and even lower than the MINI Aceman.
Energy consumption is rated at 16 kWh/100 km, aligning with its urban-friendly mission.
The Atto 2 is equipped with a 177-horsepower electric motor, delivering 290 Nm of torque. This setup ensures a lively driving experience, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds. The focus, however, remains on efficiency and practicality rather than outright performance.
Pricing and European Production
BYD plans to position the Atto 2 within the competitive €30,000 price (ca. 224,000 DKK) bracket for the European market, although official pricing details will be revealed closer to its release in the coming months.
Notably, the Atto 2 will be manufactured in Hungary, underscoring BYD’s commitment to localized production for the region.
BYD’s Broader 2025 Ambitions
The Atto 2 is just the beginning of BYD’s ambitious plans for 2025. Later in the year, the company will introduce the K9 GT, a large shooting brake exceeding 5 meters in length.
With prototypes currently undergoing testing on European roads, the K9 GT will mark a stark contrast to the compact Atto 2, showcasing BYD’s ability to cater to a diverse range of customer needs.
