Ford continues to develop new editions of its most powerful muscle car, and we added it in our favourite cars of 2024. However, the Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America stands out as one of the most impressive, combining aesthetics, design, and a deep symbolic meaning.
This edition celebrates Mustang’s achievements over time, including its recent milestone as the first car from an American manufacturer to complete the legendary Nürburgring in under seven minutes. The result is a Mustang GTD that is even more aggressive, yet with a vintage touch that captivates instantly.
American Oxygen
Since 1965, the Mustang has been an unmistakable symbol of the United States, from the roar of its V8 engine to its iconic galloping horse logo framed by a red, white, and blue emblem. The new Mustang GTD Spirit of America is not just a tribute to Mustang’s sporting tradition but also embodies the American spirit of innovation and courage.
One of the finest examples of this pioneering spirit was Craig Breedlove, an engineer with a background in the aerospace industry. In the 1960s, Breedlove purchased a jet engine from a Korean War fighter plane for $500. With this engine, he achieved extraordinary records, becoming the first to exceed both 500 and 600 miles per hour (805 and 966 km/h) on land.
His exploits resonated in a sport traditionally dominated by European aristocrats, inspiring generations of American designers and engineers—including the team behind the Mustang GTD program.
The Ford Mustang GTD Spirit of America features a Performance White body accented with double racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, inspired by the tricolor motif introduced with the Mustang in 1964. These elements also pay homage to the suit worn by Breedlove during his record-breaking speed runs in the 1960s.
Exposed carbon fiber aerodynamics, including a front splitter, rear diffuser, and spoiler, complete the look. The spoiler, featuring Race Red end plates and a “Mustang” logo visible from the underside, sends a clear message to anyone being overtaken. Customers can choose between Race Red or carbon fiber mirror caps, while Race Red brake calipers come standard.
The Spirit of America’s interior offers a unique reinterpretation of a driver-focused cabin. The seats, upholstered in leather with Dinamica inserts, showcase a Black Onyx pattern with an elegant red stripe in Race Red and accents in Re-Entry White. Subtle stitching in Victory Blue adds a touch of contrast, echoed throughout the cabin.
The steering wheel paddles, gear selector, and dashboard badge are crafted from 3D-printed titanium, reflecting the cutting-edge craftsmanship behind the car.
The fastest Mustang ever
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America is powered by an engine that represents the pinnacle of Ford’s engineering prowess: 815 horsepower, 900 Nm of torque, and a top speed of 325 km/h. These figures make the GTD the fastest street-legal Mustang ever built.
The Spirit of America will also be available in limited quantities in Europe.
