Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the second generation, the new Volkswagen T-Roc, and spy photos by Autoevolution have revealed exciting details about the 2025 facelift.
A better or worse design?
The new Volkswagen T-Roc boasts a sleeker and more contemporary look. The front end features angular headlights, a departure from the previous generation’s rounded design, giving the SUV a sharper appearance. At the rear, a full-width light bar grabs attention, accompanied by updated taillights that retain the shape of the outgoing model but introduce a modern light signature.

Spy shots also show unpainted black plastic trim along the lower body, suggesting the prototype belongs to a base trim level, distinct from the sportier R-Line and R versions.
While interior details remain under wraps, it’s likely that Volkswagen will equip the new T-Roc with a revamped dashboard and an upgraded infotainment system. Drawing inspiration from the Golf, the SUV is expected to offer touchscreens ranging from 10.4 to 12.9 inches, incorporating touch controls for volume and climate adjustments.
On the MQB Evo platform
The 2025 new Volkswagen T-Roc is set to transition to the MQB Evo platform, shared with the Golf Mk8 and Passat B9. This platform offers improved compatibility with electrified powertrains, a step forward from the previous MQB A1.
Under the hood, buyers will find a versatile engine lineup, including petrol and diesel options ranging from the 1.0 TSI to the 2.0 TSI (probably not in Scandinavia). For the first time, Volkswagen is rumored to introduce a full-hybrid variant of the TSI engines, aimed at improving fuel efficiency and lowering emissions.
For enthusiasts, the range-topping T-Roc R is expected to retain the powerful EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, delivering 300 horsepower. Paired with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed DSG transmission, the T-Roc R promises thrilling performance in a compact SUV package.
