Announced during a press conference alongside the Polestar 7 (click here to discover more), Polestar Energy is the Swedish brand’s app that provides advanced and intelligent charging solutions to all owners of its vehicles.
It complements Polestar Charge, which provides access to 875,000 charging points across Europe (including Tesla), and is initially active in 11 European markets, including Denmark, Sweden and Norway, with plans to expand in the second half of 2025.
Polestar Energy had a pilot program in the UK and the Netherlands, and the offer is now expanding across the rest of the continent, though with some variations. In all markets where it is already active, the app can be downloaded for free.
Polestar Energy’s offer
In addition to the UK and the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland are the two countries benefiting from the full Polestar Energy offer. In Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Spain, the intelligent charging solution and solar energy options are currently active.
Polestar leverages the cost-effectiveness of home charging, which in some markets is 30% cheaper than public charging, to optimize time and economic resources. With the app, customers can decide when they want to use their car and what level of charge they desire, letting the smart charging system handle the rest, charging the car when it’s most convenient for the grid.
By balancing demand and charging when it’s lower, the result is a reduction in energy costs, which translates into grid rewards or lower energy bills. Additionally, this helps reduce CO2 emissions during the car’s usage phase (excluding tailpipe emissions), as during periods of low demand, the grid makes full or near-full use of renewable energy sources, depending on the country.
