Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced a groundbreaking upgrade for its passengers: starting at the end of 2025, all travelers will enjoy free high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity on the airline’s entire fleet.

This ambitious move is powered by Starlink, a low Earth orbit satellite constellation developed by SpaceX, which offers low-latency internet coverage globally. The new service will be available to all passengers, regardless of travel class, with special benefits for EuroBonus members, who will access this premium feature without any additional cost.

What is Starlink?

Starlink is a project developed by SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk. The satellite network aims to provide high-speed internet access to even the most remote areas of the world. Starlink has gained global recognition for its innovative approach but has also been the subject of public debate in Europe. Critics have raised concerns about Starlink considering Musk’s growing political influence and his involvment in U.S. President Donald Trump‘s administration.

SAS revolutionizes the in-flight experience

SAS’ integration of Starlink technology is poised to revolutionize the in-flight experience. Passengers can look forward to using multiple devices simultaneously, whether for work, entertainment, or staying connected with friends and family. The system supports smartphones, tablets, and laptops without compromising speed or reliability.

Jason Fritch, SpaceX Vice President of Starlink Enterprise Sales, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration:

“We’re excited to provide reliable, high-speed internet across the entire SAS fleet and help level-up the in-flight experiences for passengers and crew from gate to gate.

Connectivity across the globe

Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, highlighted the broader implications of this initiative:

“It gives our customers the freedom to work seamlessly, stay connected, and enjoy uninterrupted entertainment throughout their flight.”

One of the key advantages of the Starlink system is gate-to-gate connectivity. Passengers will be able to access Wi-Fi as soon as they board the aircraft and continue using it until they disembark, eliminating the gaps typical of current systems, which activate only after takeoff and deactivate during descent.

Verhagen emphasized the transformative nature of this technology:

“Whether flying over the Atlantic or the North Sea, our passengers can now count on a connection that is as stable and seamless as it is fast. This is about giving our customers the best and ensuring SAS remains synonymous with excellence.”

Rolling out in late 2025

SAS’ partnership with Starlink represents a major leap forward in enhancing passenger experience. As the airline begins rolling out this service in late 2025, it positions itself as a leader in leveraging cutting-edge technology to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers.
