In China, the market for large MPVs, especially electric ones, is experiencing significant growth. In Europe, however, it is less popular, to the point that models like the Volvo EM90 and the Lexus LM are only available on commission. However, the Xpeng X9 is still available on the Old Continent, starting in Norway, where it debuted at the eCar Expo Oslo 2025, the electric car exhibition. The car will be available in Norway and in the other Scandinavain markets by the end of 2025.

Cheaper than competitors such as the aforementioned Volvo or the Zeekr 009 (which is not available in Europe), it focuses on providing a complete onboard experience, fully embracing the concept of a lounge on wheels. Passengers (up to six, excluding the driver) enjoy exceptional comfort thanks to the seating and can read, have a cold drink, watch a movie, or even connect their home console. We tested it with a Switch!

The Many Features of the Xpeng X9

In the lower section of the central tunnel, in addition to USB-C and 12V sockets, there is also a mini-HDMI port. With a simple adapter, any content can be projected onto the 21.4-inch monitor that drops down from the ceiling.

This can be useful for work, for those who want to watch a movie, or for gaming. The Nintendo Switch, being compact, is particularly suitable compared to larger consoles like the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, as the space in the tunnel is limited.

But even with two people seated in the incredibly comfortable independent middle-row seats, we had fun. The display offers excellent resolution, making everything more enjoyable, complemented by speakers placed throughout the cabin for an immersive audio experience. This is not just beneficial for gaming but also enhances the enjoyment of movies and, especially, music.

Comfort and space

Xpeng has put a lot of effort into seat comfort. The configuration includes seven seats, with the third row being a three-seater bench that folds down electronically at the push of a button, creating an enormous 2,554-liter cargo space, which reduces to 705 liters when the third row is upright.

The middle row consists of two independent seats with armrests, a smartphone compartment with wireless charging up to 50W, and electronic adjustments. Notably, the “Zero Gravity” function is designed for maximum comfort—if no one is seated behind, the seat reclines fully, giving the sensation of weightlessness. Try it to believe it.

Performance

All these onboard features make it clear that the X9 is designed to be enjoyed more as a passenger than as a driver. And this makes sense, given its monolithic shape, its length of over 5.2 meters (5.29 meters, to be exact), and its significant weight. However, its design has been carefully considered and, unlike other Xpeng models, features sharp and angular lines.

That said, it still performs well: available in both single-motor and all-wheel-drive versions, it features four-wheel steering, improving maneuverability. It is built on the SEPA 2.0 platform, supporting 800V charging technology, allowing DC fast charging up to 330 kW. The 10-80% charge time is just 20 minutes. The 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.7 seconds is impressive—perhaps even unnecessary for a vehicle of this type.

With a 101.5 kWh battery, its range under the Chinese CLTC cycle is 705 km, while under the WLTP standard, it should be around 500 km—quite respectable for this category. The Xpeng X9 will arrive in Norway and other Nordic countries in late 2025.
