After the latest names, such as 12 Cilindri, which clearly indicates the presence of a 12-cylinder engine, this shouldn’t come as a surprise. So yes, Ferrari Elettrica (which means “Electric” in Italian) will be the name of the iconic Maranello company’s first electric car.
CEO Benedetto Vigna has set October 9, 2025, as the unveiling date for the highly anticipated vehicle, which, though considered blasphemous by some, will undoubtedly receive a flood of orders—just like another controversial model, the Ferrari Purosangue.
A name rooted in tradition
According to recent reports, Ferrari has officially filed a patent for the name Ferrari Elettrica. This move aims to prevent the overly broad use of the generic term “Elettrica,” ensuring a clear and distinctive identity for the brand’s upcoming electric model. The name aligns with Ferrari’s recent naming strategy, which emphasizes a direct connection to the model’s key features.
Examples of this approach can be seen in the Ferrari 12Cilindri, named after its 12-cylinder engine configuration, or the Ferrari LaFerrari, which reinforced the essence of the brand within its very name. In this context, Ferrari Elettrica represents a logical and consistent choice, maintaining Ferrari’s signature clarity in model designation.
Another SUV
Ferrari’s first fully electric vehicle will be also brand’s second SUV: currently undergoing testing in a camouflaged form, is expected to debut as a five-door crossover—an unprecedented format for the Prancing Horse. The model’s shape and proportions suggest a vehicle designed to balance high performance with versatility while preserving the brand’s renowned sports DNA.
Another key area of focus for Ferrari is the sound identity of the new model. Despite lacking an internal combustion engine, the company has stated that it is working on developing a distinctive sound signature capable of evoking the emotions traditionally associated with Ferrari vehicles.
