As always, preceded by a few small details, the new Volvo ES90 is finally a sedan—the brand’s first electric one—following a long series of battery-powered SUVs. It all started in 2020 with the XC40 Recharge (now EX40).
Initially conceived as the successor to the S90, Volvo decided to rename it to emphasize the definitive shift to electric mobility. The ES90 positions itself in the high-end segment, competing with models like the BMW i5, Audi A6 e-tron and Mercedes EQE
Sedan Design, Fastback Versatility
The new Volvo ES90 stands out with an elegant and aerodynamic design, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.25—the lowest ever achieved by the brand.
The fastback silhouette combines the imposing presence of an SUV with the sporty elegance of a sedan.

A large rear hatch ensures greater versatility compared to traditional three-box sedans. With a length of 5 meters, a width of about 2 meters, and a height just over 1.5 meters, the ES90 places itself in the premium large sedan segment.
A wheelbase of 3.1 meters guarantees excellent passenger space, especially for rear-seat occupants. The trunk has a capacity of 425 liters, expandable up to 1,256 liters with the rear seats folded in a 40:20:40 configuration. Additionally, there is a small 22-liter front compartment (frunk), useful for storing charging cables and other small items.
The Most Technologically Advanced Volvo Ever
The Volvo ES90 is built on the SPA2 platform, already used for the EX90, but it introduces an 800V architecture for ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW. This allows a charge from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes and provides up to 300 km of range with just 10 minutes of charging.

The interior follows a minimalist and sophisticated approach, featuring sustainable materials and a bright atmosphere thanks to the electronically controlled panoramic roof. At the center of the dashboard is a large 14.5-inch display for infotainment, complemented by a 9-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. The multimedia system is based on Google, integrating services like Google Maps and Waze, while also supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly from launch.
700 km of Range
Volvo will offer the ES90 in three powertrain variants and two battery options:
- Single Motor: Rear-wheel drive, 333 hp, 480 Nm, 88 kWh battery, 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.
- Twin Motor: All-wheel drive, 449 hp, 670 Nm, 102 kWh battery, 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.
- Twin Motor Performance: All-wheel drive, 680 hp, 870 Nm, 102 kWh battery, 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds.
The range varies depending on the chosen configuration. The base version with the 88 kWh battery offers around 650 km (WLTP), while models with the 102 kWh battery can reach up to 700 km on a single charge.
The new Volvo ES90 is expected to arrive at dealerships in the summer. As seen with the XC90 and EX90 SUVs, the gasoline-powered Volvo S90 will remain available and will undergo a major restyling in 2025.
