Nordics have many passions, among them, there is also traveling across Europe with sleek station wagons featuring spacious cargo space, seats for the children, and an attached towing hitch. After a period where they were becoming less and less common, electric station wagons are ready to make a comeback in the market.
Let’s explore the new electric station wagons coming in 2025!
7 Station Wagons for 2025
Audi A4 Avant e-tron
Following the launch of the A6 Avant e-tron at the end of 2024, it’s now time for Audi’s second electric wagon, the new A4 Avant e-tron.
While the previous combustion-engine A4 has been rebranded as the new A5 Avant, the A4 will now be exclusively electric. It is likely to be built on the PPE platform developed with Porsche, offering either single or dual-motor configurations and an estimated range of up to 500 km.
BMW i3 Touring
Staying in Germany, BMW is continuing its electrification journey for wagons, building on the success of the i7 and i5.
The i3 Touring will be entirely new, unrelated to the electric city car launched in 2013. It will feature a sleek family-car design, embodying the styling cues from the Neue Klasse concept car, marking its first production representation.
With a completely new platform, the i3 Touring is expected to support ultra-fast charging via an 800-volt system and deliver a range of up to 700 km or more.
Denza Z9 GT
Denza, the premium brand from BYD, initially launched as a joint venture with Mercedes (hence the name Denza, echoing Benz), is now almost entirely owned by the Chinese giant.
The Denza Z9 GT is an electric shooting brake designed to compete with the Porsche Taycan. Its design is sleek and visually appealing while maintaining a spacious interior.
Measuring 5.1 meters in length—comparable to the Lotus Emeya—it boasts a power output of 952 hp, a 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 240 km/h. The Chinese cycle estimates a range of 630 km, roughly 500 km on the WLTP cycle.
Mercedes CLA
The CLA Shooting Brake has undergone a complete redesign, adopting the aesthetic and design cues introduced with the 2023 concept car.
Development prioritizes the electric version, built on an 800-volt architecture, enabling 400 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging and an estimated total range of 750 km, among the best in its class.
Volvo EV90
By March, Volvo is set to unveil its first electric sedan, the ES90, closely related to the Volvo EX90, the 7-seater SUV whose production has recently begun.
A wagon version, likely named the Volvo EV90, is also expected, retaining the same features: ultra-fast charging, a range of about 650 km, and V2X technology for energy-sharing capabilities, with Volvo’s hallmark emphasis on safety.
Zeekr 007 GT
The Zeekr 007 GT will be the brand’s fourth model for Europe after the 001, X, and 7X, which launched in December. However, the shooting brake version of the flagship sedan is not planned for Europe, as three-box sedans tend to be less popular.
This model features a sleek and refined design—courtesy of Stefan Sielaff, Zeekr’s design chief and former Audi and Bentley designer. It is based on the SEA platform from Zeekr-Geely, developed in Sweden, with 800-volt architecture and up to 645 hp of power.
