With the launch of this plug-in hybrid variant of the popular Ranger model, Ford once again positions itself as an innovative player in the pickup segment, and the 2025 model delivers more muscle and environmental benefits than the previous diesel models.

Petrol engine and a 11 kWh Battery

The Ford Ranger is renowned for its versatility and toughness, and with the introduction of PHEV technology, it’s now possible to experience this icon with a greener profile. The new Ranger PHEV boasts a combined output of 275 hp, thanks to its 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine working together with an 11.8 kWh battery. Ford continues to utilize their 10-speed automatic transmission, ensuring a smooth ride.

According to Ford, the vehicle can travel up to 45 kilometers on pure electric power, making it ideal for daily commutes or short trips around town.

Can It still tow?

One of the most impressive aspects of the new Ranger PHEV is that its towing capacity remains uncompromised despite the electric drivetrain. Ford promises a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 kg – just like the traditional Ranger models. This means that even when driving on pure electric power, you still have the strength to haul a trailer loaded with work equipment or a caravan for a holiday.

The Ford Ranger has become synonymous with power and off-road capability, and the PHEV version is no exception. With four-wheel drive as standard and an increased torque of 690 Nm – which is actually more than what the six-cylinder diesel variant offers – there’s no reason to fear off-road adventures just because there’s an electric motor under the hood.

The clever thing about the Ranger PHEV is that not only can you plug it in to charge, but it can also power other equipment. The vehicle can provide power to a camper or charge work tools on-site, making it highly practical for both recreational and professional use.

With the FordPass app, you can monitor the vehicle’s charge and even schedule charging times to take advantage of cheaper electricity rates during the night.

Expected already next year

The new Ranger PHEV is a key part of Ford’s plans to electrify their commercial vehicles, underscoring their ambitions to create both eco-friendly and practical vehicles for the global market. With the increasing demand for electric and hybrid vehicles worldwide, the Ranger PHEV fits perfectly into these future plans, without sacrificing what has made the Ranger a favorite among tradespeople and adventurers alike.

While the exact launch date for Scandinavia has not yet been announced, the Ranger PHEV is expected to be available for sale in 2025. It looks set to become an ideal choice for those in need of a versatile pickup, while also wanting to avoid the high fuel taxes typically associated with larger vehicles.
