After a two-year hiatus, the Honda ZR-V returns, positioned between the HR-V and the larger CR-V in Honda’s SUV lineup. Based on the current Honda Civic, it offers a more spacious SUV experience.
An Unconventional Model from Honda
Originally developed for the Chinese market as the electric e:NY1, the ZR-V now features a hybrid version to cater to the growing demand for hybrid vehicles in Denmark. With a more competitive price than in 2023, the ZR-V has become an attractive option for Danish buyers. The model starts from DKK 379,900 for the Elegance trim.

While not the latest on the market, the ZR-V still boasts a modern design that will appeal to many. Its cabin is inspired by the Civic, featuring a 9″ infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the screen may feel a bit small compared to newer competitors, though the cabin layout remains intuitive, a hallmark of Honda.
Primarily Runs on Battery, Not Gasoline
Space is reasonable, with an overall length of about 4.5 meters and a height of 1.6 meters. Honda markets the car as an SUV, but it could also be considered a crossover. Its closest competitors might be the Toyota Corolla Cross (also a hybrid) or the VW T-Cross, which is not available as a hybrid. The trunk offers 380 liters, which can expand to 1,322 liters with the seats down—a capacity that isn’t the best in this vehicle size, mainly due to the battery placement. Under the hood, it shares the same powertrain as the Civic: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine paired with two electric motors, delivering a total of 184 hp and 315 Nm.

The hybrid system means the gasoline engine primarily serves as a generator for the electric motor, allowing the car to run mostly on electricity. At higher speeds or during heavy acceleration, the gasoline engine takes over. The transmission is an e-CVT, also found in the Civic. Honda claims a fuel consumption of 17 km/l and a total range of almost 1,000 km on a full tank, thanks to the hybrid technology. However, it’s important to note that the ZR-V is a regular hybrid, not a plug-in hybrid, meaning it cannot be charged via a charging station.
The Honda ZR-V is already available at Danish dealerships, with the Elegance version starting at DKK 379,900, while the top model, Advance, costs DKK 439,900. We look forward to testing the ZR-V later this year to provide a more detailed review.
