At the 2024 Miami Art Week, Jaguar unveiled its bold vision for the future: the Jaguar Type 00 concept car. This groundbreaking vehicle signals the beginning of Jaguar’s electric era, setting the stage for the brand’s transformation into a maker of high-end, exclusive electric vehicles. This reveal comes ahead of Jaguar’s first production electric grand tourer, expected in 2025 and hitting the market by late 2026.
The Concept and its aesthetic
The Jaguar Type 00 showcases a revolutionary design philosophy Jaguar calls Exuberant Modernism.
This style emphasizes bold, futuristic aesthetics, aiming to evoke strong emotional reactions.
This is a 5.4-meter-long coupe with a sweeping fastback profile and a massive 23-inch alloy wheels, a grille-less front end with sleek LED lights, an expansive panoramic roof, and a rear design that replaces a traditional window with a horizontal grille integrated with the taillights.
Two distinct colors debuted in Miami – Miami Pink, reflecting the city’s vibrant Art Deco heritage, and London Blue, symbolizing Jaguar’s British legacy.
Inside, the Type 00 blends cutting-edge technology with artisanal craftsmanship.
In particular, there’s brass spine running 3.2 meters through the cabin, dividing the dashboard and adding a sculptural element made by minimalist yet luxurious materials such as natural fabrics, brass, and travertine.
Moreover, a totem-shaped brass key, which adds a ritualistic element to starting the vehicle, invites drivers to slow down and savor the moment.
This unique combination of minimalism and extravagance reflects Jaguar’s intention to create a one-of-a-kind driving experience.
Performance and sustainability
Built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, the Type 00 promises both exceptional performance and environmental consciousness. The upcoming electric grand tourer, inspired by this concept, is expected to deliver up to 770 km (WLTP) of range and rapid charging capabilities, providing 321 km of range in just 15 minutes with a high-power system.
Under CEO Adrian Mardell, Jaguar is positioning itself firmly in the luxury market. The Type 00 embodies the brand’s new ethos, encapsulated in the slogan Copy Nothing, which emphasizes originality and a break from convention. This pivot includes a focus on limited-production, high-end electric vehicles, to rival Porsche but also Lotus in a more exclusive way.
That means being a shift away from competing with traditional premium brands to targeting niche luxury markets, and have an exclusive product lineup, with no plans for mass-market models. The Type 00 concept is the first step in Jaguar’s broader Reimagine strategy, which will see the introduction of three flagship electric vehicles by 2027: a grand tourer, a coupe, and an SUV.
