With the Kia K4, the new C-segment addition to its lineup, the Korean brand seems among the few manufacturers not willing to abandon the much-loved hatchback segment, unlike producers like Ford, which will no longer manufacture even the Focus.

For now, the Kia K4 will be sold in North America, Asia, and the Middle East, with no confirmed plans for Europe. However, since it is being developed in Europe, specifically at Kia’s engineering center in Russelsheim, Germany, its arrival in Europe cannot be ruled out. It might even serve as the basis for the next generation of the Ceed.

Is the Kia K4 More Interesting than the Ceed?

Not that the current Ceed is selling poorly. In many European markets, it positions well despite its age: Jato Dynamics reports 60,478 units sold in 2024 across the entire range, including the Ceed hatchback, the Xceed crossover, and the Proceed, also thanks to last year’s facelift.

The Ceed is expected to be replaced between 2025 and 2026, but Kia has yet to reveal anything about its successor. Or rather, the Kia EV3, the new crossover we previewed, is essentially the electric C-segment model. But knowing Kia, they will likely still offer an internal combustion engine car in the segment.

To avoid developing a specific model from scratch for Europe, Kia might consider a European version of the K4, currently built in Mexico, with various engine options, as is already the case with the Ceed.

We also know that it should not be produced where the Ceed is currently assembled, namely at the Žilina plant in Slovakia. This plant will gradually transition to producing new electric models. In particular, the Kia EV2, the electric car priced under €25,000, will be produced there.

The Kia K4 has all the winning attributes to succeed in Europe as well. Its design aligns with the latest Ceed models, but its sleek shape makes it appear visually low and wide, while the hidden rear door handles in the pillars enhance its sporty feel.

Moreover, it could give rise to an interesting sports model, replacing the current Proceed, which is, however, a shooting brake.
