Following the debut of the luxurious Air sedan, Lucid Motors is expanding its lineup with the Lucid Gravity, the brand’s first crossover, showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Despite its slightly lower positioning, this model introduces some innovations, such as optional air suspension and a whopping 34-inch OLED display. It is set to hit markets where Lucid is present in 2024.
Lucid Gravity: A Seven-Seater Luxury Electric SUV
The new Lucid Gravity will offer seven seats, placing it in competition, both in terms of seating capacity and price range, with other electric vehicles such as the Kia EV9, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7, as well as the Mercedes EQB and EQS SUVs, Volvo EX90, and the Tesla Model X.
There are both aesthetic and technological novelties for both the exterior and interior. Notably, the Gravity features a distinctive front-end treatment and front lighting called “Noseblade”, integrated into a semi-hidden band between the hood and bumper, which also incorporates advanced safety systems.
On the sides and at the rear, an elongated and aerodynamic shape accommodates the 7 seats. The rear design resembles that of the Air sedan, with a unified tailgate, a curved form, and slim, full-width light design. Similar to the Air, the entire roof is panoramic glass.
Inside, there are further innovations. Particularly, the dashboard-steering wheel configuration differs from the Air, with the flattened and sporty-shaped steering wheel positioned below the large 34-inch suspended display. Following this, there’s a second central 15-inch touch display with all the apps, serving as the vehicle’s control center. Technological features are complemented by premium finishes, including wood trim and various leather and fabric options.
The Lucid Gravity offers ample space, with a rear cargo capacity of at least 680 liters and a front trunk (frunk). An optional accessory transforms the space into two additional seats with cupholders. Additionally, the rear seats feature built-in tables, and optional accessories might include Bluetooth speakers by Jenkins, alongside the more traditional bike racks and roof carriers.
Performance: 0-100 in Less Than 3.5 Seconds
In terms of performance, the Lucid Gravity can accelerate from 0 to 100 in less than 3.5 seconds and boasts fast charging capabilities up to 350 kW with a 900-volt DC power system, currently the most powerful on the market. Technically advanced, it also introduces optional air suspension, allowing for adjustable ground clearance and light off-road capabilities.
However, specific motor details are yet to be disclosed and will likely be announced closer to the start of production.
