Gone is the “E” in EHS, now simply called MG HS. This is the new second-generation Plug-in Hybrid SUV from MG.

Bigger, More Powerful, and More Technologically Advanced

Not long after the facelift of the previous model, MG now presents an entirely new model. Although the technical specifications are very similar to the previous model, the new HS is based on the Chinese car ROEWE RX5.

This means that the HS has grown since last time, now being 45 mm longer with 40 liters more luggage space, giving a total trunk capacity of 507 liters. According to MG, the cabin of the new HS offers increased spaciousness with seating for five.

The interior, reminiscent of what we see in German BMWs, is equipped with dual 12.3-inch displays, giving it a modern and luxurious appearance.

The new HS is still powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 142 hp and a larger 24.7 kWh battery with 209 hp, providing a total system output of 300 hp – an improvement over the previous EHS PHEV.

Additionally, the HS is now available in Europe with a turbocharged gasoline engine that delivers 170 hp and can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.

HS Faces Stiff Competition

The question remains whether the new HS can still catch up with its competitors in an otherwise tough class, where even Peugeot is stepping up with their new 3008, the facelifted Ford Kuga Hybrid, and the Hyundai Tucson PHEV are still major players in the field. MG’s new HS must prove its worth and superiority to compete effectively in this competitive segment.
