MG has just launched the new MG ZS Hybrid model, but this time the electric powertrain has been replaced with a new hybrid powertrain, similar to what we know from the smaller MG 3.

This updated version of the ZS represents a significant step forward in MG’s development, blending the best of both worlds – a gasoline engine and an electric motor – to deliver both efficiency and performance.

No Longer Electric The original MG ZS was introduced to the market in 2021 and made a mark as one of MG’s first electric vehicles for the European market. The new ZS Hybrid builds on this legacy by combining a 101 hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 136 HP electric motor integrated into the transmission.

Together, these units provide an impressive combined power output of 194 hp, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.7 seconds. The electric part of the powertrain draws energy from a 1.83 kWh battery located under the rear seat, which is recharged using a small motor-generator.

Improved Fuel Economy and Lower Emissions

With the new hybrid technology, the ZS achieves a fuel economy of 23.5 km/l in the combined driving cycle and emits only 115 g/km CO2. This represents a significant improvement over the previous model, which with its pure gasoline engine – either a 1.0-liter turbo engine or a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine – achieved 18.1 km/l and emitted 149 g/km CO2.

The new MG ZS Hybrid is also well-equipped with modern technology and comfort features. Standard equipment includes LED lights front and rear, a large 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 7-inch digital display, a rearview camera, automatic headlights, and keyless entry.

Possibly Not for all Nordic countries!

The new MG ZS Hybrid will face competition from established models like the Hyundai Kona Hybrid and the Nissan Juke Hybrid. However, it is still uncertain whether the MG ZS Hybrid will be launched in Denmark, as the smaller MG 3 Hybrid has not been introduced to the Danish market either – unfortunately, since it is a really good car and alternative to Clio and Toyota Yaris. MG does have other compact electric vehicles coming to Europe, as well as a small city car named MG2, not to mention the upcoming Cybster! According to MG, the reason for reintroducing gasoline vehicles is that demand for these cars has become popular once again.
