Approximately three years after the debut of the current model (check out our test drive both of Nordic Edition and Xpower), the new MG4 undergoes a complete transformation in aesthetics, dimensions, and powertrain. It now positions itself as a more refined model, aligning closely with the MG3 and the Cyberster.
This drastic change in a short period is primarily due to underwhelming sales—not so much in Europe, where the model has seen some success in certain countries, but rather in China, where MG’s electric vehicles have yet to convince buyers. In February 2025, for instance, only 13 units of the MG4 were sold in China.
The new MG4 EV is set to make its official debut in China in April 2025, likely at the Shanghai Auto Show. Its arrival in Europe is expected in the fourth quarter of the same year.
Key features of the New MG4
The new MG4 boasts a sleeker and more elegant design compared to the current generation, with the option for two-tone color schemes, including white. The front end features LED headlights and a sporty bumper with a trapezoidal air intake. Sculpted fenders enhance the model’s visual presence, while the charging port is located on the left front fender.

Unlike the latest automotive trends favoring flush-mounted door handles, the new MG4 thankfully retains traditional handles. The model shown in the images is equipped with five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, which are not optimized for aerodynamic efficiency.
At the rear, the car features a roof spoiler with an integrated brake light, a rear wiper, and arrow-shaped taillights—an element inherited from the Cyberster—connected by an LED strip. From a technical standpoint, the new MG4 adopts an independent rear suspension system, ensuring improved ride comfort and stability.

The new MG4 EV is a hatchback measuring 4.39 m in length, 1.84 m in width, and 1.55 m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.75 m. Compared to the previous version, it is 108 mm longer. The vehicle is powered by a single electric motor delivering 161 hp, which is 7 hp less than the current version. The high-performance Xpower variant (422 hp) remains unconfirmed at this stage.
The top speed of the new MG4 EV is 160 km/h. It is equipped with an LFP battery supplied by Rept Battero Energy, though its exact capacity has yet to be revealed. The car has a curb weight of 1,485 kg, making it one of the most weight-optimized electric vehicles on the market.
