Continuing september and october’s fil rouge, November 2024 saw a historic achievement for electric vehicles in Denmark: for the first time, more than half of all new cars hitting the road this year are fully electric.

According to data from Bilstatistik.dk, EVs now account for 50.3% of all new car registrations in 2024—making Denmark second only to Norway in the global push towards electrification.

Electric cars are the norm

Electric cars are now the new standard, comprising over half of new car sales in Denmark,” says Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark. “We anticipate this figure will climb above 70% next year as more affordable EV models enter the Danish market.

Since May, EVs have consistently made up more than 50% of new car sales, overtaking the combined market share of petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles. In November alone, 8,770 EVs were registered, accounting for 58.7% of total new car sales in the last month.

Used cars do it (even) better

If imported used cars are included, the share of EVs would be even higher. By October 31, 47,996 used EVs were imported into Denmark, representing a staggering 87.1% of total used car imports. November’s import figures are expected to push this percentage further.

November’s Top 10 Best-Selling Cars

The dominance of EVs is also reflected in the best-sellers list, but if in october we could see only one petrol car, in november they are again 3: BMW 3 Series, the unexpected Volkswagen Touran and the Skoda Octavia.
