Omoda has not yet made its debut in Scandinavia, but the brand is expected to launch its vehicles here soon.
After successful launch in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK, we should expect to learn about Omoda here in Denmark, Sweden and Norway in the upcoming year.
What’s happening? Yet another car brand from China is entering Denmark—but this time, it’s different
Welcome to Omoda, a new brand from the larger Chinese Chery group. The name “Omoda” is a blend of the English word “Oxygen,” and their goal is to create a clean environment.
So What makes them different? The model set to debut here in the Nordic market is the Omoda 5, both in ICE and above all EV version. It’s no surprise that this is another electric crossover in the competitive compact crossover segment. However, Omoda stands out from other new cars from the East. This time, there will also be a petrol engine version.
Omoda 5, 200 hp petrol turbo
The first model to arrive is their petrol car. It comes with two engines: a 1.5 turbo and a 1.6 turbo, but the latter is expected to be available in Denmark. It delivers 200 hp and 210 Nm of torque, and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.
According to WLTP standards, the Omoda C5 achieves a fuel economy of 14 km/l and emits 170 g/km of CO2. It also received a five-star Euro NCAP rating last year. The Omoda 5 will only come with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
The Omoda 5 (petrol) will face competition from models like the Hyundai Kona 1.6 T-GDi, Toyota Corolla Cross 2.0 Hybrid, and Volkswagen T-Roc 1.5 TSi, both in terms of space and price.
Omoda 5 EV – 64 kWh battery and a range of 450 km
The model likely to appeal most to Danish buyers is the electric version of the Omoda 5, called the Omoda 5 EV. Both cars share the same platform.
The 5 EV is equipped with a 64 kWh battery and delivers 204 hp. While the range is still unknown, it’s expected to be around 450 km. The 5 EV will compete with the BYD Atto 3, Hyundai Kona EV, Volvo EX30 and the Honda e:NY1
The interiors
Both models feature an interior that somewhat resembles a BMW 3 Series with a curved 20.5″ screen serving as both the instrument cluster and touchscreen. However, there are two separate screens, each measuring 10.25″.
Both cars also support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless charging for two mobile phones. The top trim, named Noble, adds advanced features such as a 360-degree 3D camera and a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking.
Omoda’s design is characterized by a distinctive front grille with an eye-catching diamond pattern and adaptive 3D LED headlights. There’s also room for personalization with available colored accents for the wheels and side mirrors. Omoda refers to this as “Art In Motion.”
What else ?
Omoda was original expected to arrive in Scandinavia by March 2024 but didn’t. However. Though we hope to see them early next year, and hopefully, the cars will come with competitive pricing. If all goes according to plan, the Chery group has more cars on the way for us consumers.
These models are called Jaecoo 7 and Jaecoo 9—both larger SUVs with (expected) the same petrol engine as the Omoda 5, offering more space and a premium feel.
