In 2024, we tested several OnePlus products. They are all highly capable, offering rare smoothness in their respective categories. The flagship OnePlus 12, the first foldable OnePlus Open, and the “mid-range” OnePlus Nord 4 stood out as the brand’s key smartphones.
Which one should you choose? It depends on what you’re looking for. In this article, we aim to help you identify the best option for your needs.
For those seeking the best in photo and video: OnePlus 12
If, like the author, you are a professional constantly on the move and require power, quality, and lightness, the product to consider is the OnePlus 12. Also, keep an eye on the new flagship OnePlus 13, which brings additional improvements to the camera system—we’ll discuss that in due course.
The OnePlus 12 is widely used by the author for filming YouTube videos for the NordiskBil project, video reviews, and photography. Its camera system is excellent, thanks to a collaboration with Hasselblad and Sony lenses, providing smooth shooting and impressive performance even in low light.
Remember the Lynk & Co 02 preview, shot on a fashion show model with contrasting backgrounds? The vibrant, true-to-life colors you saw without any color correction were all thanks to the OnePlus 12.
It doesn’t stop there: the battery life is outstanding, gaming performance is top-notch, and it’s great for quick writing, thanks to the finely tuned keyboard haptic feedback. Everything OnePlus does best is packed into this device.
All-in-One Solution: OnePlus Open
When discussing the OnePlus Open, its camera system deserves praise, as it shares the same technology as the OnePlus 12. Currently, no other foldable offers these features.
This device is ideal for those needing an all-in-one solution without compromise. The OnePlus Open boasts a lightweight form factor, premium materials (especially the Apex edition), and a productivity suite enhanced by AI and the unique Oxygen OS, setting it apart from other Android customizations.
When closed, its flat display is perfect for enjoying social media. When open, it’s excellent for studying and reading—I often used it for reviewing press releases and spec sheets for cars later tested for these channels.
A business-ready device that shines equally during leisure and vacations. Plus, its ability to stay open at any angle makes selfies or studio videos much easier to record while previewing the content.
For any situation: OnePlus Nord 4
My personal favorite, however, is the Nord 4. We’ve always loved the Nord series, but this generation takes significant strides forward. It’s the most stylish and modern of the trio, with minimal compromises.
Despite being mid-range, its technical capabilities can rival some flagships. If you’re after power and smooth performance, this device is more than sufficient.
The compromise, perhaps, lies in photography. The results are great (absolutely!), but they can’t match the OnePlus 12. Still, it’s perfect for casual photography enthusiasts who love preserving memories or sharing on social media.
The Nord 4 is like a reliable pair of jeans: suitable for every occasion, comfortable, and built to last.
