Polestar wants to expand its presence in the European electric vehicle market, and a key player in this strategy will be the new Polestar 7. The automaker has described this upcoming model as a “premium compact SUV,” emphasizing that it should not be seen as the successor to the Polestar 2 (which will have a bright future ahead). While the sedan will indeed have a successor, Polestar plans to reveal it at a later stage.

A new platform to reduce costs

Details about the new electric SUV are still scarce, but in an interview with Auto Express, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller provided some insights. He stated that the Polestar 7 will be positioned between the Volvo EX30 and Volvo EX40, which places it in the heart of the market. This suggests that the new model will belong to the C-segment SUV category. Based on the limited available information, Auto Express has even created a rendering of what the vehicle might look like.

Lohscheller also suggested that the Polestar 7 will attract new customers to the brand, as it will be priced lower than the current lineup while still offering premium features.

Another significant aspect is that the new model will be manufactured in Europe. This strategic move will allow Polestar to circumvent the European Union’s tariffs on electric vehicles produced in China. Furthermore, the Polestar 7 will be the first model built on a brand-new platform, which will later be adopted for future Polestar vehicles.

Rendering

By moving away from a multi-platform approach, Polestar aims to streamline production, reduce complexity, and cut costs. While specific details about the new architecture remain limited, it is expected to incorporate cutting-edge technology. Although not explicitly confirmed, it is likely that the platform will support an 800V architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging capabilities.

Polestar 7 will carry forward the design language that the brand currently applies to its vehicles. However, Lohscheller has asked Philipp Römers, Polestar’s Head of Design, to highlight the performance aspect more prominently, as Polestar has its roots in performance-oriented vehicles. This emphasis on sportiness suggests that the Polestar 7 could feature a coupe-style SUV design.

While an exact launch date has not been disclosed, the Polestar 7 is expected to arrive between 2026 and 2027. Notably, it will debut before the Polestar 6. The automaker has decided to delay the launch of the roadster, as it is a low-production-volume model.
