For the past two years, almost all Tesla Superchargers across Europe have been accessible to non-Tesla EV drivers, not due to Tesla’s generosity, but to meet European regulatory standards. However, Polestar has become the first automaker to fully integrate Tesla Superchargers into its Polestar Charge network, offering streamlined access for Polestar drivers across the United States and Europe without needing to rely on the Tesla app, which has previously been a requirement.

Although Tesla opened up its network, it hasn’t integrated Superchargers with other charging apps, requiring drivers to download the Tesla app and preventing RFID cards from starting a charging session. Polestar’s inclusion of Tesla Superchargers directly into its Polestar Charge network simplifies access and offers more seamless charging options.

Now, Polestar drivers have access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers in the U.S. and over 850,000 charging points across Europe, which includes more than 20,000 Tesla Superchargers. This initiative reflects Polestar’s commitment to simplifying the charging experience for its customers. In addition to Tesla Superchargers, Polestar Charge includes other major providers like Ionity, Recharge, Total, Fastned, and Allego, but also Clever and e.On in Denmark, making comprehensive charging coverage available across major routes and cities.

But while Polestar’s initiative significantly enhances charging options for its users, the simplest solution would be a POS terminal on each charging station, similar to those found at gas stations. A new EU mandate will require POS availability at all chargers by 2027, but Tesla and others may wait until the final deadline to implement this change.
