We attended the preview of the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric Prototype, the semi-final concept car that gives a glimpse of the upcoming Renault Twingo E-Tech, set to launch in 2026 and already positioned to be an electric “best buy,” with a projected price under €20,000 (149,000 DKK).
The car will officially debut on October 14, 2024, at the Paris Motor Show, where visitors will be able to see it alongside other Renault innovations, including the Renault 5 E-Tech and, most notably, the Renault 4 E-Tech (which we will discuss).
Like the original Twingo, but in the future
The Twingo E-Tech Electric Prototype pays homage to the original 1992 Twingo, a car that revolutionized the concept of the city car with its compact, lively design.
This new version retains the playful and functional spirit that made the first Twingo famous, reinterpreting signature features like the monovolume profile and round headlights. While the design nods to the past, the Twingo E-Tech Electric is packed with modern details, including a rear window with a black frame and LED taillights that add a high-tech flair.
Designed for agile and practical city driving, the Twingo E-Tech Electric stands out for its compact dimensions, making it ideal for urban use. Despite its small footprint, the interior is spacious and bright, thanks to a fixed panoramic roof. The five-door layout ensures excellent accessibility, while the interior has been crafted for comfort and functionality, reflecting Renault’s “voiture à vivre” (cars for living) philosophy.
Aesthetic and technological innovations
One of the most distinctive features of the new Twingo is the circular door handles, reminiscent of the iconic design from the 1992 model. Additionally, three small decorative openings on the hood pay tribute to the original Twingo’s engine ventilation, although they are no longer necessary in this 100% electric version.
