Polestar has officially announced that the Polestar 2 will have a direct successor, ending months of speculation about its future. This confirmation comes from the company’s new CEO, Michael Lohscheller, during an interview with the British magazine Autocar.

Contrary to earlier rumors suggesting the Polestar 2 might be replaced by an alternative model such as the Polestar 7 electric SUV, Lohscheller clarified that the Polestar 2 will remain part of the lineup.

A diverse and focused lineup

Polestar’s future portfolio will include five key models:

  • Polestar 2 – The electric sedan.
  • Polestar 3 – A large electric SUV.
  • Polestar 4 – The brand’s flagship model.
  • Polestar 6 – A high-performance four-door coupe.
  • Polestar 7 – A mid-size electric SUV.

The Swedish automaker, controlled by Geely, aims to maintain a balanced and comprehensive lineup characterized by electric propulsion and a design philosophy rooted in simplicity and performance.

Lohscheller highlighted the importance of enhancing the dynamic and performance-oriented aspects of their vehicles without straying far from the brand’s established aesthetic.

A new Design leadership

With Philipp Römers, formerly of Audi, taking over as Polestar’s new design head, subtle changes in the design direction are anticipated. Lohscheller emphasized a need to make the cars look more confident and reflective of their true performance capabilities.

What we’ve achieved so far is really good, but I’ve asked Philipp to emphasize the performance aspect of our vehicles more,” he said. “They should look a bit more self-assured. Perhaps they’re currently a bit too modest. However, I don’t expect any radical changes; these will be nuanced adjustments left to the designers.”

Since joining Polestar in October, Lohscheller has expressed confidence in the brand’s potential, citing a dedicated team and strong product lineup as key strengths. Polestar’s all-electric range positions it ahead of traditional automakers still heavily reliant on combustion engines.

The CEO also reaffirmed Polestar’s support for strict emissions regulations, particularly the UK’s plan to end the sale of combustion-engine vehicles by 2030.

Politicians should stay the course they have set. It’s the right path if they are serious about net zero. If they’re not, they should be transparent about it,” Lohscheller said, subtly criticizing manufacturers seeking delays in these regulations.
