Toyota’s mobility brand, Kinto, is set to expand its services across Denmark, moving beyond its current focus on car-sharing in and around Copenhagen. The Japanese automaker aims to make its innovative mobility solutions accessible to a broader audience by integrating them into select Toyota dealerships.
Beyond the Capital
In November 2023, Kinto launched a pilot program featuring electric shared bicycles in Copenhagen—the first of its kind worldwide. The initiative proved successful, with over 12,000 users booking thousands of rides and covering significant distances across the city.

The insights gained from this initiative have played a crucial role in shaping future mobility strategies. Kinto utilized this knowledge during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where similar mobility solutions were implemented.
Due to the increased focus on expanding its car-sharing services across Denmark, Kinto is now putting its electric bike-sharing pilot in Copenhagen on hold. However, the company has not ruled out reintroducing the service in the future as a more permanent offering.
Car-Sharing with Reserved Parking Spaces
Kinto Share, the brand’s car-sharing service, has been operational in Denmark since 2020. Unlike many other car-sharing models, Kinto Share utilizes fixed reserved parking spaces, ensuring users always return their rented vehicles to the same location and are guaranteed a designated parking spot.
Currently, Toyota’s service operates car-sharing locations in Copenhagen, Frederiksberg, Rudersdal Municipality, and Hørsholm Municipality. Plans are also underway to expand the fleet, including adding more fully electric vehicles to the fixed parking locations in Copenhagen.
While the electric shared bikes will be removed from Copenhagen’s streets in the coming weeks, Kinto remains open to reintroducing them in the future as a permanent service rather than a pilot program.
